I just had the most wonderful breakfast: two whole wheat pancakes (from frozen), mixed berries (also from frozen- they’re delicious!) a dollop of Greek yogurt and a little syrup. I added in a cup of hot green tea and I’m full until lunch.
I never used to eat breakfast. I used to skip it and instead, munch on junk all morning. In the past when I’ve worked in an office setting, that was the worst because I’d stop at Starbucks on the way to work and buy their lemon pound cake (not good for you!). Worse yet, I’d get something at the office cafeteria (also not good for me). So, I’m very grateful to be able to take 15 minutes these days to make my own breakfast.
I have good memories of breakfast. When I was growing up, we’d all sit down for breakfast before starting our day. I remember my dad would call me “Lucy” ( from Charlie Brown) because I was kind of grumpy in the morning. Maybe if I was practicing yoga, I’d have been more cheerful! But those memories of starting the day with my family are fond ones.
Nutritionally speaking, there’s tons of evidence that eating breakfast is a great way to lose weight. It stabilizes your blood sugar so you don’t crave sweets (if you eat the right thing), gives you something in your stomach so you don’t eat junk and gives you the necessary energy so you can think and do what you need to do at the beginning of your day. Dieters who are skipping breakfast are missing a very important meal of the day.
So, find something you like, connect it with a fond memory and make this time each morning a great way to set a healthy tone for the day!
