When we head into the New Year, we’re usually filled with lots of motivation to make healthy changes. But we usually approach making those changes with sheer willpower rather than searching out new ways of bringing more health into our life.
I’ve assembled a list of 10 healthy habits that are a bit different than some of the standard changes you might be used to seeing and I also have included some tools you can reference to help you learn more about each one.
When we approach making change with only willpower, the results are usually short-lived. Ask anyone who has tried to make a resolution and by February, has already lost their motivation. This is why we need to do the research, learn new techniques and seek out experts in different areas of health and wellness in order to make the right changes and have them stick.
We also need to let go of stories we hold close to our heart, which often show up in the excuses we give for “not” doing the thing we want more of in our life. Things like, “I can’t do yoga because I’m not flexible” or “I can’t meditate because I’m not able to focus,” are identities we have associated ourself with and we hold onto this identity closely with little ability to loosen its grip on our psyche. So, to make any positive health change, we need to be willing to let go of some of that and open our mind to a different way of being. This is part of the work you do with a neuroscience coach, which I refer to on the list.
