When I was teaching at a recent anatomy training, I asked the new teachers on day one: “What are your feelings about learning anatomy?” I heard things like, “I feel overwhelmed,” “I feel like I can’t learn it because I am not good at science,” and a host of other things.
The fact is, if we head into learning something with the belief that we can’t, we’ll we set ourselves up for failure. The other fact is as yoga teachers, we need to know anatomy. Not just “flex versus point;” we need to actually KNOW it, well beyond just anatomical actions.
The good news is that we’re not learning anatomy to treat a patient, like a doctor would. So, our scope is much more limited. This is great because it means we can hone in on just what is important. I do all that work for you, by sharing with you just what I think you need to know, in understandable ways so you can really absorb it.
It’s good to have a game plan though, so I created one for you. If you’ve been putting off learning anatomy (and your 200 hour training didn’t do a good job), here’s a 10 step plan to help you build your anatomy knowledge.
