When I teach anatomy to recent graduates of teacher training programs, often there are teachers who graduated from their basic training but have not started teaching yet. When I ask them why, knowing that the longer they wait, the harder it will be, they often tell me they are afraid.

This is a common feeling and one that teachers have when they’re in their first few months of teaching, if not longer. So, the first thing is to acknowledge that what you are feeling is normal. Secondly, I’d ask you “What do you need in order to be ready?” Often when you ask this, teachers will say, “More time and more training!” Honestly, you can be in training for years but until and unless you’re willing to just start teaching, you’re never going to gain the experience.

I did a whole Facebook Live video on this today.

I share one of my strategies to help newer teachers, which is to teach from action. To find out more about that, watch my webinar here.

Starting anything is scary. But sitting on the sidelines is something you’ll always regret.
